Why am I writing this blog?

Hi there – I’m Vicky.  I’m a mum of one and I work part-time in local government.

I first started this blog when we took on an allotment  and planned to share progress on our food growing efforts.  After initial enthusiasm, it didn’t take long for us to realise that tending an allotment on the other side of town with a small child in tow was just not going to happen, particularly not in a weed free photogenic kind of way!  Now my dad tends the allotment, and we grow what veg we can in our back garden between football training and do a bit of foraging.

Since then the blog has evolved a bit – the “allotmentrecipes” web address is no longer perhaps the most relevant, although I still enjoy sharing recipes using our homegrown and foraged supplies.  After signing up for Zero Waste Week in 2015 I  have truly caught the ” zero waste” bug and now also enjoy writing about energy saving and waste reduction, particularly reducing plastic waste.  I have been an active member of the Zero Waste Heroes  community on Facebook,  and for a few years was part of the admin team for the large Facebook Group Journey to Zero Waste UK.  I am also part of the Zero Waste Bloggers Network.  Having stepped down from the Journey to Zero Waste UK admin role I now volunteer as a Waste Prevention Advisor for West Sussex County Council in my spare time.

This blog is a place for me to write about things I enjoy, things that interest me and that I hope may also interest other people out there, and to hopefully improve my writing skills in the process.  So – it’s about both learning, and sharing. It is also very much also about finding a way of connecting with people out there that share some of my interests.

If a post is of interest, please do let me know.  You can now follow me on Facebook Twitter and Instagram. It would be great to see you there.

  1. Twitter and Facebook are a great way to share your posts – do you have accounts linked to your blog don’t need to your personal accounts but a fb page and separate twitter account. A good way to chat online with similar folk.

    1. Thanks Jane. I have heard of Letsbuzz a long time ago but not sure I realised you were still going – will add details as soon as I have time to update the posts. Thanks for commenting. Will look out for you on FB too.
